Hello everyone, we are happy to say we are back at the park pickin and singin. Our show opened April 10 with a little change which we are excited to tell you about. Smoky Mountain String Band will be on park everyday the park is open this year and we have a new member to help in our rotation. Jason Bales is joining us on banjo, guitar and vocals. You may know Jason from several shows on park and most recently from the Back Porch Live and Christmas In The Smokies. Along with Ashley, Jerry, Roger and Kerry, Jason brings an added element of music and humor to the show.
With the change this also brings a new schedule, although we are a five piece group you will see four of us in rotation everyday with a different show each day. We'll post a schedule as we have it with a "who's who" for each day; however, keep in mind that it may change from time to time as a need may rise within the group.
We've had a great start to 2018 and have enjoyed seeing old friends and making new ones already this year. We hope, if you haven't made it to Dollywood yet, that we'll see you soon and stop by and welcome Jason to the group.

nice write-up

  • The Smoky Mountain String Band opened their 3rd season together with fill in banjo player Jason Bales. Jason; who plays guitar and banjo in The Back Porch Live Show,  was subbing for Roger during his recovery from hip replacement surgery and an unfortunate mishap resulting in a broken bone in his corrected leg. Roger returned to work mid-May and was very happy to be back.
  • Ashley is in anticipation of her and husband Justin's first child late July. So far everything is going well for the mother-to-be and we ALL look forward to meeting the new family member.
  • During MAY the String Band was invited to participate in the Hallmark Channel's taping of The Home & Family Show. Hallmark Channel was on park for a few weeks leading up to the May 20-22 weekend taping doing special features with a good number of entertainers and crafters. Of course the taping in the Celebrity Theater included Dolly herself singing some songs, talking about family, the park and her dream of building a family theme park. The week long series aired Memorial Day through June 6.
  • We've enjoyed getting to see and hear some of our bluegrass music buddies during the Dollywood Bluegrass and BBQ Festival. The festival brought in some of the best in bluegrass music and filled the park with folks from all over the US for this event. It's a great time to visit and the BBQ was again fantastic this year.

  • We're still waiting on the arrival of "our new band member" Ashley is hanging in there and playing and singing as good as ever. It won't be long now with her due date July 27 until we get to meet Braxton.
  • As the days and heat continue and Ashley prepares for the new arrival, we'd like to welcome our fill-in Andy Stinnett to the SMSB. Andy's from Sevierville, TN and we are glad to have him on stage with us. We are praying for Ashley and we'll miss her during this time.
  • WED JULY 20...HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Kerry today, he is __ yrs old.  WELCOME TO THE WORLD BRAXTON! born today to Ashley and Justin weighing 6lbs 15oz baby, mommy and daddy are doing well and expected to go home soon.
